TOURNAMENT RULES

    All matches will be played according to the most recent edition of the FIH rulebook, with the following exceptions:

    1. Field of Play

    a.      The Field of play shall consist of the artificial turf and the walls or any permanent structure part of the arena          inside the field of play.  Any ball touching these surfaces will be considered in play subject to being safely          played and any rules associated with danger.

    b.      The field of play is approximately 60 meters and divided into 2 half’s. With one half line and two circles.           Defensive free hits will be called “16 meter” hits.

    2. Players

    a.      Games will be a 6-a-side format. 5 field players and 1 Goalie.

    b.      Each team may have between 4 and 6 players on the field. (Minimum 4 and Maximum 6).

    c.      One of the 4-6 players must be a goalkeeper.

    d.      Each team must have a designated goalkeeper, who wears a helmet for the entire duration of the match.

    e.      Goalkeepers may play for multiple teams.

    f.       Only players participating in the match can remain in the “Home” or “Away” bench/dug out area of the field.

    g.      A maximum number of 10 players registered per team.

    h.      The Mixed division will require a minimum of 2 women on the field at all times, not including Goalie.

    i.        In the event of identical uniforms by two teams scheduled to play, the team listed 2nd on the schedule will           be required to wear another color or use pennies made available by the tournament.

    3. Discipline during matches

       Umpires are advised to be very stern in the event of individual/teams constantly disputing calls during the games.

    a.       Green card - warning

    b.       Yellow card - temporary suspension for a minimum of Three (3) minutes.

    c.       Red card - permanent match suspension*.

    * Any player sent off the field for disciplinary reasons will have his/her name and the circumstances recorded by the umpire. A player who has been ejected (red card) shall automatically be suspended from his/her team’s next match. Based upon the Umpires’ report & the severity of the infraction, the Tournament Disciplinary Committee will determine that player’s eligibility for further participation in the tournament beyond his/her one match suspension. Any team using a disqualified player shall forfeit the game in which the disqualified player was a participant and the disqualified player will immediately be ejected from the tournament.

    4. Time

    a.         All games will start and end on time. The clock is controlled by a central timer and will start as                scheduled.

    b.         Each game is 20 minutes long with NO half time break

    c.          Only a 2-minute change over time between games will be allowed.

    d.          Time will not stop for injury unless it is life threatening.

    e.         Each team has a 2-minute grace period after the stadium clock starts to field their team. If after two             minutes the team can not field the minimum number of players required, the game will automatically             be a forfeit to the opposing team with a score of 0-3.

    5. Free Hits

    a.          All offensive free hits within 5 meters of the circle must be taken 5 meters away from the circle.

    b.          Free hits near the sidewalls may be taken 3 meters from the sidewall.

    6. Penalty Corners

    a.          One offensive player and one goalkeeper will execute penalty corners. The offensive player will start the              ball from the half line and have 10 seconds to score a goal. All of the remaining offensive players and              defenders must stand behind the half line. The goal must be scored from inside the circle. The penalty              corner is over; if the ball is cleared over 5 meters away from the circle after it has entered the circle or 10              seconds have elapsed.

    7. Penalty Strokes

    a.          Penalty strokes will be taken on a spot 9 meters from the goal line. The penalty stroke will be taken by              one offensive player and defended by one goalkeeper. All of the remaining offensive players and defenders              must stand behind the half line. Once the penalty stroke is taken, if the ball does not cross the goal              line and is still in the field of play the ball is considered live and any player may play the ball.

    8. Scoring Each goal will be recorded by the umpires on the tournament score card.

    a.           Goals Scored from inside the “D” 3 points

    b.           Goals scored from inside the opponents half. 2 points

    c.           Goals scored from inside own half 1 point

    d.           Penalty Corner 2 points

    e.           Penalty Stroke 3 points

    9. Points 

    Pool matches will result in 3 points for a win, 1 point for a tie and 0 points for a loss. Final standings will be based on the following criteria.

    a.           Teams will be ranked according to their total number of points.

    b.           Should two or more teams be tied, teams will be ranked according to their respective number of                             matches won.

    c.           Should two or more teams still be tied, then those teams will be ranked according to their                          respective goal difference (Goals for minus goals against). A positive goal difference takes precedence               over a negative one.

    d.           If two or more teams are still tied, teams will be ranked according to their respective number of goals              scored.

    e.           If two or more teams are still tied with the same number of points, same number of matches won                          and same goal difference, then the result of the match between those teams will determine the ranking of              the teams. The winning team(s) will be ranked higher.

    f.            If still tied, the winner will be decided by a coin toss.  

     

    Any appeals must be made in writing within one hour of the conclusion of the match in question. All appeals committee decisions will be final. Any rule not altered by this document will be played as written in the FIH rulebook.
